Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal in New Delhi and unveiled plans for the development of 14 airport projects, marking a significant step towards turning vision into reality.
The launch of the new terminal in the capital city will enhance the airport’s capacity and provide a seamless travel experience for passengers. Additionally, the announcement of 14 airport projects across the country demonstrates the government’s commitment to modernizing and expanding the aviation infrastructure, which will not only boost connectivity but also contribute to the overall economic growth of the nation. This initiative reflects PM Modi’s vision of transforming India’s airports into world-class facilities, catering to the increasing demands of domestic and international travelers.
Azamgarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled 15 airport projects, which included 12 new terminal buildings valued at nearly Rs 10,000 crore in Uttar Pradesh. This event is considered the largest infrastructure development in the region, encompassing new airports, expanded terminals, and the laying of foundation stones for future airports.
The project initiated by PM Modi unveiled 12 new terminal buildings at Pune, Kolhapur, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Delhi, Lucknow, Aligarh, Azamgarh, Chitrakoot, Moradabad, Shravasti, and Adampur Airports. Additionally, the foundation stone for new terminal buildings at Kadapa, Hubballi, and Belagavi airports was laid on Sunday.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, along with other dignitaries, graced the occasion. In the fiscal year 2023-24, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has already operationalized modern integrated terminal buildings at Chennai, Port Blair, Surat, and Tiruchirappalli Airports. Furthermore, new terminal buildings at Kanpur Airport, Rajkot International Airport, Tezu Airport, and Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhya Dham were inaugurated. These projects aim to enhance passenger amenities and boost the local economy.
Further, the groundwork was also set for new terminal buildings in Datia, Udaipur, Jodhpur, and Rajahmundry to meet future demands. The 12 new terminal buildings are being constructed at a total cost of Rs. 8,903 Crore, with a combined capacity to accommodate 615 Lakh passengers annually.
As per the Prime Minister’s Office, these terminal buildings are fully equipped with various passenger amenities such as check-in counters, aerobridges, baggage conveyors, and ample concessionaire area. AAI has also initiated the construction of three new terminal buildings at Kadapa, Hubballi, and Belagavi Airports at a total cost of Rs. 908 crore.
Upon completion, the collective passenger handling capacity of these airports will rise to 95 lakh passengers per year, as stated by the government. These new terminal buildings also feature various sustainable elements like a double insulated roofing system, provision of canopies for energy conservation, LED lighting, low heat gain double glazing unit, solar power plant, etc. to meet GRIHA ratings.
