Indian Navy successfully rescued 21 crew members, among them an Indian national, following an incident where the Barbados-flagged Liberian-owned bulk carrier True Confidence was struck by a missile in the Gulf of Aden on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Navy announced that the Maritime Security Operation was carried out by the Indian Navy warship, INS Kolkata, utilizing its integral helicopter and boats.
The US military confirmed that three individuals were killed and at least four were injured when a missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels struck a bulk carrier in the Gulf of Aden. The Indian Navy also stated that essential medical assistance was given to the wounded crew members. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Indian Navy stated: “Indian Navy’s prompt action in response to Maritime Incident in Gulf of Aden. Barbados Flagged Bulk Carrier MV True Confidence caught fire following a drone/missile attack on 06 Mar, approximately 54 nm South West of Aden, resulting in severe injuries to crew members, leading to their evacuation from the vessel.”
“INS Kolkata was deployed for Maritime Security Operations, reaching the scene at 1645 hrs & successfully rescuing 21 crew members, including an Indian national, utilizing helicopters and boats. Urgent medical assistance was provided to the injured crew. The crew of TrueConfidence were later taken to Djibouti, on the evening of 06 Mar,” they further mentioned.
